HYWE — Computational Spatial Design Environment
HYWE is a computational spatial design environment for generating and exploring architectural layouts
during early-stage design. It converts spatial programs, relationships, hierarchy and constraints into
discrete spatial configurations that can be generated, compared and explored before detailed geometric
modelling.
Relational Spatial Design: Relationships Rather Than Geometry
Instead of beginning by drawing rooms and then deciding how they connect, HYWE begins with spatial intent:
hierarchy, sequence, adjacency, containment, boundaries, and flow. These relationships are compiled into
spatial configurations through a deterministic computational process.
Define → Generate → Explore
Define: Express architectural intent through hierarchical structure, spatial relationships, sequence, boundaries, and constraints visually or via HYWE's compact spatial syntax. Generate: HYWE translates this relational structure into spatial configurations using its discrete Hygrid model (planar spatial layouts, site-bounded configurations, hierarchical spatial arrangements, and volumetric massing). Explore: Inspect relationships, modify constraints, compare alternatives, analyse spatial properties, and explore permutations of the same underlying intent.
Computational Architectural Layout Generation
HYWE provides a browser-based environment for procedural space planning, topology-driven layout
generation and computational exploration of architectural configurations.
